What do leaders do?

This makes no sense.

We come into network marketing, and then we’re told to be a leader. Now, we don’t know how to be a leader, or even what leaders do.

It gets worse. In order to be super-successful, we must build leaders on a team. But how do we do that? What do we tell others to do? What activities? What words to say? What skills to learn first?

No wonder networkers find their business frustrating. “Wanting” something is a lot different than “knowing” how to do it.

Knowing how to do it? What is the first step? Learning exactly what to do, of course.

If we believe leaders are important to your business, then we must learn these skills quickly.

Learn exactly what to say and do to become … and build leaders now.

5 places to find new, awesome distributors for your team.

Finding prospects? Easy.

But … finding motivated and skilled prospects is harder. Locating these self-starters will be the fastest way to grow our teams.

But where can we find these motivated and skilled people? Here are five places that are filled with awesome, skilled, and highly motivated prospects.

#1

Teachers. But not just any teachers. Look for band teachers. Why? First, they are underpaid. Second, they have training skills. Third, they have patience. Think of how much patience someone needs with a junior high school band. And fourth, they are hustlers. They have to raise money for band uniforms, band travel, and more.

Look at it from the teachers’ point of view. Go to work every day, get underpaid, have part of your salary deducted for your retirement plan, work with unmotivated students, and to do this every day for the next 20 or 30 years. How motivated would we be if this is what we had to look forward to every Monday morning?

Don’t you think the teachers would at least be open to an alternate future life? At the very least, we are giving the teachers one more option for their lives.

Does every band teacher think this way? Of course not. But many would welcome a chance to change their futures. Why not be the person to offer this future to them?

#2.

Part-time workers. Not just any part-time worker, but people with full-time jobs and a part-time job. What do we know about these people? They want more money. They have goals in their life. And, they are willing to work to get what they want. And what is even better? We know they don’t want to work a full-time and a part-time job for the rest of their lives. We have the solution for them.

People with two jobs are easy to find. All we have to do is ask. To a friend, we could say this, “Do you know anyone with a full-time job and a part-time job?”

No one will be offended that we asked that question. And if our friend asked, “Why do you want to know?” We can answer, “I may have a plan so they can get rid of one of their jobs.”

Who wouldn’t want to recommend that solution to one of their friends?

#3.

Networking events. Don’t just think of business networking events. Any networking event. What do we know about these attendees? They actively seek new connections with people. These are do-ers. Most already have a pre-existing network that they can talk to. And finally, they love networking. What could be better?

What are some examples of networking events? A quilting group that gets together would be a networking event. People that congregate for arts and crafts fairs on weekends would be a networking event. And yes, people who gather at the bar on Friday nights to complain about their jobs. That is a networking event also. So we don’t have to limit our thinking just to a business networking event. People love to network.

#4.

Special interest groups. Think about the product or service that you market. If we marketed utility savings, what groups of people like couponing or saving money? If we marketed health products, walking groups and hikers are natural consumers. If we sold skincare products, we would look for groups interested in fashion.

In all of these groups, there will be organizers. It is the organizers that we would want to talk to first. They will get us to the most people quickest because they have the respect of the group members.

#5.

University graduates. Young people with energy. They have dreams. And they have HUGE college loans to pay. When graduates have to pay $500, $800, or $1000 loan payments on top of their living expenses, they quickly realize that their next 15 or 20 years look grim.

When people have a huge problem, they are open-minded to solutions. All we have to do is show them how a part-time business can pay off their student loans, and we are done. It isn’t hard to show someone how to earn an extra $500, $800, or $1000 a month in network marketing.

And think of the look of relief our prospects will have when they see a plan to get out of the huge debt burden they thought they would carry for years. We truly can make a difference.

Five great places to start.

Energy-sucking vampire distributors don’t see it …

As leaders, we hear some of our distributors whine about not having any prospects. Of course, they insist that it is not their fault.

Our conversations with the perpetual whiners, the welfare-begging, and energy-sucking vampires in our group go something like this:

Whiner: “Oh my. The world isn’t fair. I just don’t have any prospects to talk to.”

Us: “Do other distributors have prospects to talk to?”

Whiner: “Yes, other distributors in the group have plenty of prospects to talk to. It is so unfair.”

Us: “Tell me about these other distributors. Do they have the same compensation plan as you?”

Whiner: “Of course they have the same compensation plan. We are all with the same company.”

Us: “Do they market the same products as you?”

Whiner: “Sure. We all have the same products.”

Us: “Do they live in the same town as you?”

Whiner: “Yes, some of these lucky distributors with lots of prospects live in my neighborhood.”

Us: “Do these lucky distributors have better weather than you?”

Whiner: “Of course not. We all have the same weather.”

Us: “Hmmm, do these lucky distributors find their prospects here in town?”

Whiner: “Yeah, they find all the good prospects. I can’t find any good prospects. Everyone I talk to is a loser, lazy, too busy, and hates network marketing.”

Us: “So everything is exactly the same between you and those lucky distributors. Same company, same compensation plan, same products, same town, same weather, same group of people to prospect from … everything is exactly the same. So there must be some difference. What do you think it is?”

Whiner: “Uh, I don’t know. And did I tell you about the terrible time I had getting here to the meeting today? The traffic was backed up from an accident, my car overheated, the detours were crowded, somebody ought to fix the roads, somebody ought to hire someone to do a better job, somebody should investigate why there are so many accidents …”

It’s never the distributor’s fault.

Our distributor just doesn’t get it.

Everything is exactly the same between the successful “lucky” distributor and the whining distributor except

The distributor.

Scary, isn’t it?

It is hard to imagine why the whining distributor doesn’t see this. All the factors are exactly the same – except the person.

The successful “lucky” distributor simply learned to “say and do” something different, and that produced different results.

Where can I find good prospects?

Prospects are everywhere. Let’s ask ourselves, “Do they want more money in their lives … or less?”

So of course, most people are pre-sold prospects already. But, when we talk to them, they don’t trust us, they don’t believe us … so they pretend to not be prospects.

The first rule is to build rapport. That means getting them to see that we see the world the same way as they do. So for example, we can start a conversation by saying, “You know, jobs just take up so much of our time.” If the prospect agrees, the prospect feels more trust and will believe other things we say.

Now, in a group of 100 prospects, a few will never join. They have been crushed by humanity, their dreams shattered. And a few will join no matter what you say. It is just “their time.”

But for the vast majority, we will have to build rapport and use good communication skills.

But back to the opening question: “Where can I find good prospects?”

Start with people who have a full-time job and a part-time job. They are motivated. They are willing to do more. And they don’t want to work two jobs for the rest of their lives. Excellent prospects.

Now, we can ruin them by saying the wrong words, of course. However, we are at least starting with someone who is motivated. 🙂
